Pigeon nuisance!

BIRDS of prey are being used as a natural deterrent against pigeons which are causing problems on a Basingstoke housing estate.

Steve Wise, of NBC Bird and Pest Solutions, with Buzz the Harris hawk, who is helping to keep pigeons at bay on a Basingstoke housing estate. The pigeons have been making a mess on flats, balconies and washing in the Oakridge area, and their droppings carry several dangerous bacteria which pose a potential health risk if left to build up. Sentinel Housing Association asked NBC Bird and Pest Solutions to implement a falconry programme in Freemantle Close, where trained hawks and falcons circle the area to keep pigeons at bay.
