How to enter WOS photographic competition

The annual WOS photographic competition takes place at the December indoor meeting 7.30 pm on Wednesday 14th December at the Crown Centre, Devizes. All you have to do is come along to the meeting with your photos (A4 size or 10 x 8 inches). PLEASE ARRIVE BY 7.10 pm SO YOUR PHOTOS CAN BE DISPLAYED BEFORE THE START. You can enter up to 3 photos, one in each of the categories:
- Wiltshire bird
- UK bird
- Other wildlife / natural history
All photos must be taken this year and be of WILD subjects (no captive animals / birds from sanctuaries / pets). A prize will be awarded to the best in each category as chosen by the members present.

Description: John Pollard Memorial Lecture
Peter has been studying Bristol’s roof-nesting gulls since 1980 and throughout this time has been involved in international gull research at a high level. For the last 15 years he has been the co-ordinator for the colour-marking of the large gulls for all of the Bird Ringing Schemes in Europe (Euring). He is the author of several scientific papers on the subject (including the Lesser Black-backed Gull pages in the Migration Atlas) and has acted as consultant to various authorities on roof-nesting gulls. WOS commissioned Peter’s surveys of roof-nesting gulls in Wiltshire in 2003, 2004 and 2009.

Description: Rob is a freelance ornithologist based in Kent. His presentation will illustrate the changing status of the hobby, the WOS logo bird. He will give a summary of recent survey work on this species and offer suggestions for a new population estimate.
