Wednesday to Sunday 10-14 June 2020; Suffolk Long Weekend.

This will be a five day trip to enjoy the some of the best habitats that Suffolk has to offer. We will begin at midday at the RSPB Lakenheath reserve and spend the afternoon looking around this relatively recently created wetland reserve. If time permits we may visit the nearby Weeting Heath reserve for Stone Curlew and Woodlark. We will stay overnight in the Lakenheath area and on Thursday 11 June drive east to the Suffolk coast near the RSPB Minsmere reserve where we will be based for the rest of the trip. From this base we will visit a number of nearby nature reserves which, as well as Minsmere, will include Walberswick and Strumpshaw Fen. On the way home on 14 June we will visit the RSPB Rainham Marshes reserve.

During our visit, which will include a wide variety of habitats we should compile a big bird list including, amongst others, Bittern, Marsh Harrier, Bearded Tit and Avocet. There should be plenty of non-bird interest with much interesting flora and insects which, at Strumpshaw Fen could, weather permitting, include Swallowtail butterfly and Norfolk Hawker dragonfly.

Members will need to book their own accommodation, on the 10th in the Lakenheath area, and for the rest of the trip in the Minsmere area.

Leaders will be Alison Rymell and Granville Pictor and more details of the trip including meeting places and so on can be obtained from the leaders in due course. Those wishing to attend should register their intention to attend with Alison Rymell whose contact details will be found on the information sheet issued with the Winter edition of WOS News.
