Hobby and WOS News
WOS publishes Hobby annually and WOS News quarterly. Both are provided free to all WOS members, and contributions are always welcome.
Hobby
The principal aim of Hobby is to provide the Wiltshire Bird Report for the year — the systematic list summarises observations of all species recorded in the county, reported by WOS members and others. The main contents of Hobby are:
- Summary of weather for the year
- Review of the year’s birds
- Systematic list
- First and last dates of migrants
- Wiltshire ringing report
- Finders’ accounts of any species recorded in the county for the first time
- Short papers on Wiltshire’s birds
First published in 1975, the most recent volume is Hobby 34, including the bird
report for 2007. That for 2008 is due for publication in November 2009. Articles and line drawings for publication in Hobby are welcome. Please send these to the chief editor, Paul Castle (01793 693497 or email).
To purchase back copies of Hobby, please contact John Osborne (01373 864598 or email).
WOS News

- Details of forthcoming meetings and events
- Reports from recent field trips
- Letters from members
- Short articles from members, eg of recent travels

- Signficant bird records from the previous quarter
WOS News is usually mailed in February, May, August and November. Articles, letters, drawings and other contributions for inclusion in WOS News are always welcome. Please send these to the chief editor, Steve Davies (01793 741438 or email).
