The BTO Atlas 2007-2011

The British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) started organising national bird surveys (referred to as Atlases) in 1968. There was another major atlas 20 years later, and we are now at the point where the BTO has embarked upon another atlas.

For more Atlas background see the relevant section on the BTO site.

Atlas Results for Wiltshire

The fact that the Atlas is online to most of the participants means that data can not only be entered very quickly onto the database but also that feedback is available equally quickly – the information available to users is updated daily. It is particularly interesting to “drill down” to local level (North or South Wiltshire, in our case) and see what is happening.

The Wiltshire Tetrad Atlas

Wiltshire Ornithological Society has decided that the opportunity of an update to “Birds of Wiltshire” presented by the Atlas project is too good to miss. See under Surveys on the main menu for more information.

Volunteers required

Additional volunteers are always needed to carry out timed visits. Anyone can submit roving records for the survey, and these are particularly important for recording breeding evidence during Spring and early Summer. Click here to find how to take part.
