Events

WOS organises a programme of both outdoor and indoor events for members to enjoy birds, Wiltshire sites and other wildlife. Non-members are also welcome.

Outdoor meetings visit some of the best birding sites in the Wiltshire and the south west. A leader familiar with the site ensures a good chance of seeing local specialities. We cater for all ranges of experience, from beginners to experts, and are also trialling ‘family events’ specifically to cater for younger children. Meetings are a relaxed affair, usually attended by 10–20 members, and the social aspect is greatly appreciated.

Most outdoor meetings are in Wiltshire and some provide the opportunity to visit sites that would not normally be accessible to the public, such as parts of Salisbury Plain. We regularly venture out of county and occasionally even abroad. Most are whole day or morning meetings, though there are occasional evening trips in summer.

Indoor meetings usually involve illustrated talks by experienced presenters, including wildlife photographers, ornithologists or representatives of conservation organisations. We have an increasingly varied programme, including our annual Photographic Competition in December. The WOS AGM is held in March. Most indoor meetings are held during the evening in Devizes.

For forthcoming indoor and outdoor meetings, check our events calendar. This provides details for each event, including the meeting point and leader for outdoor events. See venues for how to get to the commonly used indoor meeting locations. Please introduce yourself to the leader or organiser when you arrive.

Please read our safety guidelines before attending outdoor meetings.
